Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct, with the Constitution of RSA 1996 and the Constitution of Yzerfontein Neighborhood Watch shall be binding on all members and members shall uphold and promote the aims and objective of this constitution at all times.

Members shall, in the first instance be under the authority of and in partnership with the South African Police Service and accountable to them and then to the Management of Yzerfontein Neighbourhood Watch.

Members’ involvement in all activities of the Neighbourhood Watch is on a voluntary basis and also the use of his or her private vehicle. Thus, the neighbourhood watch and other affiliated entities can not be held liable for any damage to his / her person or private vehicles sustained during the delivery of the assistance.

No member of Yzerfontein Neighbourhood Watch shall show racism, sexism or any other form of discrimination based on language, age, gender, religion, ethnic or social origin, color, sexual orientation, disability, political conviction or any other constitutional protected orientation towards any member and any other person.

Members of Yzerfontein Neighbourhood Watch on patrol must be familiar with regard to law regarding the rights of private persons in a civilian arrest or the search of a person. Only “minimum violence” as defined in the Criminal Procedure Act No. 51 of 1977 must be used against suspicious persons. No form of vigilatism (self-appointed law enforcement without legal authority) will be accepted.

Yzerfontein Neighbourhood Watch members carrying weapon during operations, must be fully familiar with the provisions of the Dangerous Weapons Act – Act 15 of 2013 and follow it to the letter.

No person under the age of 18 years may participate in any patrol.

Members of Yzerfontein Neighbourhood Watch may not divulge any confidential or privileged information that they may have acquired as a result of their membership of Yzerfontein Neighbourhood Watch .

No member of Yzerfontein Neighbourhood Watch may use his or her membership for personal benefit and may not receive any payment, commission or gratuity in connection with his or her membership, except after being duly authorized thereto by the management of Yzerfontein Neighbourhood Watch.
